1985 |
“Theptarin Diabetes and Endocrine Center” began its operation. Diabetes teamwork and patient education as approach to manage diabetes was introduced to Thailand for the first time. |
| 1986 | Began Iodine131 service for thyroid treatment. Was the only private institution to provide comprehensive thyroid treatments: medication, surgery, and nuclear medicine. |
| 1992 | Expanded into “Theptarin General Hospital” with 24-hour emergency service. |
| 1993 | Started classroom teaching with patients’ acceptance of education as core of successful diabetes management Pioneered “Diabetes Camp” , first of its kind in Thailand, with intention to enhance knowledge and assist patients in behavior modification for better diabetes management. Was the first institution in Thailand to perform peripheral distal bypass surgery to increase blood flow to the foot and save diabetes patients’ limbs from amputation. |
| 1997 | Pushed for the forming of “Knowledge Fights Diabetes”, a patient-run club founded by a group of Diabetes Camp alumni. Published weekly health articles in “Sakulthai” and “Krungthep Thurakit Wan Artit” ,widely-read magazine and newspapers, for public education. |
| 1998 | Was one of the two first private hospitals in Thailand to receive ISO9002 certification for quality management. Founded “Thai League of Diabetes Educators” which is now elevated to “Thai Society of Diabetes Educators” to gather together medical professionals working with diabetes patients and promote teamwork in diabetes care. |
| 1999 | Was the first private hospital in Thailand to treat thyroid disease with alcohol injection. Set up Thailand’s first “Foot Clinic”. Introduced felted-foam dressing technique for treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. |
| 2001 | Received ISO9001: Version 2000 certification for management standards. Pioneered custom-made shoe and insole services for diabetes patients and others for proper weight distribution and prevention of foot ulcers. Founded “Foundation for the Development of Diabetes Care” to support diabetes-related personnel development and research. |
| 2002 | Prof. Thep Himathongkam, MD, FACP, FACE, hospital CEO, received the Aventis Distinguished Diabetes Service Award (individual category). |
| 2003 | Theptarin Diabetes Team won the Aventis Distinguished Diabetes Service Award (team category). Theptarin Diabetes Camp received the BUPA Blue Cross Clinical Excellence Award. Was the first hospital in Thailand to install hospital-wide quality control system for point-of-care blood glucose measurement. Represented Thailand in an effort to drive training and establish regional-wide (Southeast Asia) standard for diabetes educators. Theptarin Diabetes Team began to be recognized as a model throughout neighboring countries. Received visitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam. Conducted training rotation for Indonesian endocrinologists. |
| 2004 | Established Theptarin Diabetes Call Center. Signed MOU on academic coordination with Institute of Nutrition Research, Mahidol University. Was selected as a case study for master degree courses at School of Management, Mahidol University. Established coordination with the Ministry of Public Health in personnel training for primary care units and other public health facilities. |
| 2005 | Move towards “quality of life and disease prevention” concept and begin operation in new 20-storey Lifestyle Building. Opened “MEDE Health Solution Club”, a fitness center with swimming pool and spa services to support the healthy lifestyle concept. Coordinated with the National Health Security Organization to organize behavior modification activity trainings for over 1,000 medical personnel from all parts of Thailand. |
| 2008 | With support of World Diabetes Foundation and Foundation for the Development of Diabetes Care, organized trainings on Preventive Foot and Wound Care for over 240 medical personnel, with the objective to see initiation of foot and wound care service throughout Thailand. |
